A week ago today..

I'm being so pokey! I made this days ago and I haven't done a thing. I don't know why.

Laziness I suppose =]

Anyway, I made dinner for fathers day last Sunday wearing my normal cooking attire. Namely:

I like the whole, 1950s housewife look. So I bought an apron from Anthropologie (which is a FANTASTIC (but expensive) store down at the Summerset Mall in Novi) and I bought the headscarf from Target.

Little tidbit: I love the shirt I'm wearing as well. I got it from Urban Outfitters, also in Summerset, and it says 'Club Soda, Not Seals' =]

Well anyway, for dinner, since my grandparents were both coming over I had to make a pretty big meal, which is something I'm not normally used to. Of course my family helped because they are super nice like that.

I wish I knew how to work this camera... But I digress. I decided to make Salisbury steak with mushrooms and onions. I burned the one side a bit but in doing so it only made the inside more tender and flavorful! It actually ended up tasting pretty good.
Here's the entire meal. Corn on the cob, Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes (I've never mashed potatoes before! That was a thrill), dinner rolls, sliced cucumbers, and a cheese, olive, and pickle tray. Oh, and don't forget the cottage cheese!
For dessert I decided to make a cookie bottom cake. Simply make a yellow cake, substituting a stick of butter for the oil and a cup of milk for the water (basically make a butter-yellow cake) and then top it with cookie dough. I used a tube of store bought cookie dough but I wouldn't advise it.
Last time I made this cake I used a cookie mix from a package (the kind where you add an egg and milk I believe?) and it turned out much more tasty.
Here's the finished product. I wished that the cookie would have sunk more evenly to the bottom but that may be my own fault in not spreading it evenly on top! It ended up tasting alright but not as delicious as I had hoped.
Whew! I'm glad I finally got that in print... I hope I will update a little more regularly in the future.. or at least in the same week I accomplished something!
